MINUTES

SEANC DISTRICT #3 EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING

July 28, 2009

 

Members Present: Greg Barksdale, Teresa Canton, Anne Castro, Libby Clawson, Bob Gibbard, Reta Greene, Vicky Greene, Doris Greer, Kathy Howell, Teresa Johnson, Pat Reighard, Rhonda Robinson,  and Janice Smith.

 

Members Absent:   Sarah Chapman, Chuck Cooper, Kay Goins,  Rick Howe, Andy Kirby,  Stacy Sears, Pat Taylor, and Amy Winebarger. 

 

Guests:   Henry Bulatta, Tony Smith and Julie Young

 

SEANC District #3 Executive Board meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, by Chairperson Janice Smith.  The meeting was held at the Spear’s BBQ & Grill, Linville Falls, North Carolina.  Chairperson Smith welcomed the members and guests.

 

Kathy Howell made a motion to dispense with the reading of the minutes, Teresa Canton seconded the motion.  Motion approved.

 

Treasurer Teresa Canton reported that the district has almost $20,463.00 on July 21, 2009.  Libby Clawson moved to approve the report, Bob Gibbard seconded the motion.  Report approved.

 

Anne Castro, a member of the Committee for Health Care Accountability, reported on the progress the committee is making.  Anne also, informed the board that there would be a Town Hall meeting in Morganton, North Carolina, on August 25, at Western Piedmont Community College.

 

Chairperson Smith stated that the date of our next board meeting was set for August 25th, therefore Janice made a motion to cancel the board meeting and asked all members to attend the Town Hall meeting.  Kathy Howell seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

  • Auditing: No Report
  • Bylaws:  No Report
  • Communications:  Chairperson Smith asked that articles for the next District #3 newsletter be sent to Pat Taylor by August 6.
  •  EMPAC:  Kathy Howell, EMPAC Chairperson reported that the state EMPAC Committee is having a report printed for all districts.
  •  Fund Raising:  Chairperson Smith thanked all board members who worked concession stands for events in the Holmes Canter.
  • Insurance:  No Report
  • Member Discount:  No Report
  • Membership:  Rhonda Robinson Membership Chair, reported that Benny Brigman and a number members from the central office will come to ASU for a membership blitz in October.
  • Nominating:  No Report
  • Policy Platform:  No Report
  • Retiree: Retiree Chair, Teresa Canton is working on plans to send out information to retired state employees.
  • Scholarship:   Teresa Johnson, Scholarship Chair reported that District #3 had a state wide scholarship winner.  TJ, also thanked the members of her committee for their help and hard work.

 

Chairperson Smith gave an overview of the last BOG meeting.

Tony Smith, State SEANC President, thanked District #3 for their support in the past year and is looking forward to working for us in the next year.  Mr. Smith also thanked Pat Reighard for all his hard work in the past year and is looking forward to the upcoming year.

 

Pat Reighard, State 1th Vice President, thanked Mr. Smith for his kind words.  Pat reported that the BOG is working to make sure that SEANC has a balanced budget.

 

 

Chairperson Smith gave a list of the people that are running for state wide offices.

Meeting times for next year’s District #3 board meetings will be set at our next metting.

May 26, 2009

 

Members Present: Teresa Canton, Anne Castro, Bob Gibbard, Reta Greene,  Doris Greer, Kay Goins, Kathy Howell, Teresa Johnson,  Pat Reighard, Rhonda Robinson,  Janice Smith, Stacy Sears, Pat Taylor and Amy Winebarger.

 

Members Absent:  Greg Barksdale, Sarah Chapman, Libby Clawson, Chuck Cooper, Vicky Greene, Andy Kirby, and Rich Howe. 

 

Guests:   None

 

SEANC District #3 Executive Board meeting was called to order at 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, by Chairperson Janice Smith.  The meeting was held at the Italian Kitchen, Linville Falls, North Carolina.  Chairperson Smith welcomed the members.

 

Chairperson Smith informed the board that there are no minutes for the April meeting at this time.

 

Treasurer Teresa Canton reported that the district has almost $20,008.00 on April 30, 2009.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

  • Bylaws:  No Report
  • Communications:  No Report
  •  EMPAC:  No Report
  •  Fund Raising:  Amy Winebarger Fund Raising Chair, stated that the Golf Tournament was a success. Amy thinks District #3 made around $2,600.00.
  • Insurance:  Kay Goins, Insurance Chairperson distributed information about the different types of insurance members of SANC can buy at a discount.  Kay also stated that SEANC has a great new vision plan.
  • Member Discount:  No Report
  • Membership:  Rhonda Robinson Membership Chair, distributed designs for the SEANC button contest. The members voted and selected one to be submitted.
  • Nominating:  No Report
  • Policy Platform:  No Report
  • Retiree: Retiree Chair, Teresa Canton is working on plans to send out information to retired state employees.
  • Scholarship:   Teresa Johnson, Scholarship Chair reported that District #3 had a state wide scholarship winner.  Teresa distributed the state wide Scholarship Raffle tickets.

Chairperson Smith gave an overview of the last BOG meeting.

 Chairperson Smith informed the board that District #3 member Pat Reighard is running for state 1st Vice President again this year.  Chairperson Smith also stated that Pat Reighard would give a presentation at the Annual Meeting on health care and what is happing with the legislatures.

 

Chairperson Smith reminded the board that our Annual Meeting will be June 23, at the Student Union on the campus of Appalachian State University.

Members Present: Teresa Canton, Bob Gibbard, Reta Greene, Vicky Greene, Doris Greer, Kathy Howell, Teresa Johnson, Andy Kirby, Pat Reighard, Rhonda Robinson, Stacy Sears, Janice Smith and Amy Winebarger.

 

Members Absent:  Anne Castro, Sarah Chapman, Libby Clawson, Chuck Cooper, Kay Goins, Greg Barksdale, Rich Howe and Pat Taylor. 

 

Guests:   Henry Bulatta, Rebecca Gummere, Keith Hanes, Jim Phillips, Leonard Reynolds, Tony Smith, Dennis Wadell, and Vicky Lane

 

SEANC District #3 Executive Board meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, by Chairperson Janice Smith.  The meeting was held at the Port Christopher’s, in Boone, North Carolina.  Chairperson Smith welcomed the members and guests.

 

Rebecca Gummere from Oasis thanked the board for their support and gave the board information about the different types of services they provide. It was discussed to have the tickets for Night at the Oasis be given to a ROTC family that was here attending a Memorial Service for their son who was an ASU Alumni.

 

Chairperson Smith thanked Ms. Gummere for coming and for the information and presented Oasis a check for a corporate sponsor in support of their fundraising activity Midnight at the Oasis.

 

Jim Phillips from Colonial Life Insurance informed the board of the different types of insurance that Colonial Life offers.

 

Teresa Johnson made a motion to accept the minutes and Amy Winebarger seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

 

Treasurer Teresa Canton reported that the district has almost $16,000.00 on February 27, 2009.

NEW BUSINESS

 

Teresa Johnson presented to Vicki Lane a memory book from District #3 and Chairperson Smith presented a check in appreciation for all her work for District #3.

 

Vicki Lane thanked all District #3 members.

 

SEANC President Tony Smith distributed information about SEIU and informed the board that a member of SEIU will meet with Governor Prude next week.  President Smith thanked District #3 for making him welcome.

 

 

The next meeting will be May 26, at the Italian Kitchen in Linville Falls/Pineola, NC. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:45
